How to Take WhatsApp Orders Without Losing Sales

By Emmanuel · WebCraft Nigeria

WhatsApp is where most Nigerian businesses actually close sales — but it's also where a lot of sales quietly slip away. Here's how to tighten up the process so fewer conversations go cold.

1. Don't make customers ask "how much" — show it first

Every extra question is a chance for a customer to lose interest and move on. If pricing is visible before the WhatsApp conversation starts (on a catalogue or website), the chat becomes about confirming an order, not negotiating basic information.

2. Reply fast, or set expectations if you can't

A customer who has to wait hours for a reply has often already messaged a competitor in the meantime. If instant replies aren't realistic, an auto-reply confirming you've seen the message and will respond soon keeps them from assuming you've gone quiet.

3. Use WhatsApp Business's catalogue feature — but don't rely on it alone

It's useful for showing a handful of products, but it's limited for anything beyond a small range. Pairing it with a proper website catalogue that funnels into WhatsApp for the final order gives you the best of both — full browsing, familiar checkout.

4. Pre-fill the order details wherever you can

The less typing a customer has to do to place an order, the fewer people abandon it halfway. A "Book on WhatsApp" button that pre-fills a message with the product name and price (rather than a blank chat box) removes friction at exactly the moment it matters most.

5. Confirm orders clearly and quickly

A simple, prompt confirmation — what was ordered, the total, expected delivery — builds trust and cuts down on "did my order go through?" follow-ups later.

"Every extra step between interest and confirmation is a chance to lose the sale."

Where this fits with a website

All of the sites we build use exactly this pattern — customers browse a real catalogue, then land in WhatsApp with the order details already filled in. See it in action on the portfolio page.
